The Democratic Republic of the Congo declared its 17th Ebola outbreak, caused by Bundibugyo ebolavirus, on 15 May 2026. As the largest recorded outbreak caused by this Ebola species, it spread across multiple provinces and placed considerable pressure on public health and humanitarian response systems. This brief reviews the outbreak and the response through a synthesis of official situation reports, technical publications, and humanitarian analyses. It examines factors that may have influenced outbreak detection, summarizes key observations on surveillance, information management, coordination, and humanitarian financing, and reflects on lessons identified during the response. The brief concludes with practical recommendations aimed at strengthening preparedness, information management, and coordination in future public health emergencies.

Country: Pakistan Source: World Food Programme Please refer to the attached file. For the week ending on 23 July the national average prices of staple foods (wheat flour and edible oils) remained 9 percent higher compared to their prices on 26 February**,** pre-Middle East crisis. Compared to the week ended on 16 July, wheat flour prices increased marginally, likely due to higher transport costs associated with increased fuel prices. The cost of the basic food basket stands at PKR 16,513 per month (USD 59), equivalent to PKR 4,128 per week (USD 15) nationwide, excluding lower cost items such as vegetables or spices. Fuel prices increased during the reporting period, with petrol increased slightly by 5 percent while HSD increased significantly by 16 percent. Fuel prices remain significantly higher compared to their pre-crisis levels with petrol 27 percent higher and HSD 36 percent higher.

Highlights – Preliminary data collected from 34 health partners delivering life-saving health services in 227 townships in Myanmar, shows 740,968 people have been reached during the first 6 months of 2026. This excludes data submitted by partners using the new online ActivityInfo system before the extended deadline of 4 August 2026. In addition, the Health Cluster received reports from health partners operating in all 330 townships reaching 824,312 people in need of humanitarian health services. – Between 1 January and 31 July 2026, 99 attacks on health care were reported by Insecurity Insight, as compared to 45 verified incidents by WHO’s Surveillance System for Attacks on Health Care (SSA). – Floods affecting over 100,000 people in Rakhine, and 20,000 in Hpakant, Kachin. In Rakhine severe shortages of medical supplies are reported. – Conflict displacing over 200,000 people in Magway. Thanks to prepositioning by UNICEF, lifesaving medical supplies were distributed to health partners delivering mobile health services to displaced population. WHO provided 100 First Aid Kits. – Increase in requests for malaria and dengue supplies shows a surge in vector-borne diseases from various parts of the country, combined with a chronic shortage of malaria supplies, in particular Long-lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLIN), but also diagnostic tools and treatment. – Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) in Emergencies workshops conducted throughout Myanmar for almost 100 participants shows urgent need for further integration of NCDs in health services delivered to conflict-affected populations.

INTRODUCTION In response to the Ministry of Interior’s (MoI) decision of 26 September 2023 to enact an “Illegal Foreigners’ Repatriation Plan”, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and IOM, the UN Migration Agency, have collated their data on the arrest, detention, and deportation of Proof of Registration (PoR) holders, Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders, and undocumented Afghan nationals as well as on the outflows of Afghan nationals at the Torkham, Ghulam Khan, Chaman, Badini and Bahramcha border crossing points, to better understand the protection environment and movements of Afghan nationals returning to Afghanistan from Pakistan. In 2025, the Government of Pakistan (GoP) issued several directives impacting Afghan nationals. In January, the GoP announced that Afghan nationals should relocate from Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Rawalpindi, or else face deportation. In April, further announcements indicated the implementation of the second phase of the “IFRP”, targeting ACC holders, in addition to undocumented Afghans. In July, the GoP issued a Statutory Regulation Order (SRO) directing the repatriation/deportation of PoR card holders following the expiry of PoR card validity on 30 June. The GoP later indicated a deadline of 1 September for PoR holders to leave Pakistan, before the start of the repatriation/deportation process. UNHCR issued a press briefing expressing concern regarding the decision and urging the GoP to exempt Afghans with international protection needs, as well as those with particular circumstances or vulnerabilities, from involuntary return.

Countries: United Republic of Tanzania, Burundi Source: World Food Programme Please refer to the attached file. 144,428 people assisted in June 2026 (52% female) 799.2 mt food distributed in June 2026 USD 6.8 million required in the next six months (July – December 2026) KEY HIGHLIGHTS WFP sustained essential food and nutrition assistance for 106,426 refugees in Nyarugusu Camp at 50 percent ration while maintaining full planned nutrition support for children under five and pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls. WFP strengthened national preparedness and anticipatory action through emergency simulation exercises, climate information exchange and supply chain support to improve response readiness with the Prime Minister’s Office Disaster Management Department (PMO-DMD) WFP advanced resilience and systems-strengthening work with government and partners, including clean cooking, financial education for young agripreneurs, climate-smart public works and school feeding learning exchanges.

Entre janvier et juin 2026, les partenaires humanitaires ont indiqué avoir apporté une aide à environ 2,4 million de personnes, contre un objectif national de 4,2 millions. La couverture reste inégale selon les départements, et les résultats communiqués ne signifient pas que les besoins soient pleinement satisfaits. A la fin du 2eme trimestre, le financement déclaré pour le Plan de réponse humanitaire 2026 (HNRP 2026) s’élevait à 334 millions de dollars (environ 38% des 880 millions de dollars nécessaires), ce qui limite la capacité de maintenir et d’intensifier les interventions prioritaires dans un contexte opérationnel qui se détériore.

Cameroon continues to face protracted humanitarian needs driven by armed conflict, insecurity, climate shocks and disease outbreaks. The Far North, North-West, South-West, Adamawa, East and North regions are most affected, with widespread displacement, pressure on host communities and limited access to basic services. Women, children and other vulnerable groups remain particularly exposed to protection risks and affected by gaps in assistance.
