The assessment focuses on the forms of TFGBV that affect adolescent girls, the associated risk factors and consequences, available support, and barriers to accessing care. It is based on 24 key informant interviews and 12 focus group discussions involving 100 adolescent girls from urban, rural / remote communities in Dniprovskyi, Kamianskyi, Kryvorizkyi and Samarivskyi raions.

Findings Overview

  • Limited access to safe and structured offline spaces increases adolescent girls’ reliance on digital environments. Girls reported spending between 7 and more than 12 hours online daily. Frequently reported forms of TFGBV include cyberstalking, online harassment, online sexual harassment and image-based abuse;
  • The assessment identified a gap between girls’ experiences and professionals’ understanding of TFGBV. Cyberstalking was reported in all focus group discussions but recognized as a distinct risk by only 25% of key informants. Risk patterns also vary by age, shifting from unwanted contact and privacy violations among younger girls to blackmail, coercion and partner control among older girls;
  • General GBV response pathways are available, but specialized services for minors affected by TFGBV were identified by only 25% of key informants. Shame, stigma, confidentiality concerns and distrust of adults discourage girls from seeking formal support, while friends and parents are often their first sources of help.

The assessment also provides recommendations for strengthening TFGBV prevention and response for adolescent girls.
