SITUATION OVERVIEW
• Prolonged social unrest and road blockades during the second quarter of 2026 affected approximately one-third of the national territory, disrupting access to food, fuel, and essential services. The situation had a particularly significant impact on the cities of La Paz and El Alto, contributing to food price speculation and increased costs of basic commodities.
• In August, adverse weather conditions affected numerous municipalities and communities across the country, resulting in livestock losses, particularly camelid herds, increasing humanitarian assistance needs.
• Rural and Indigenous communities, smallholder farmers, women, children, and populations whose livelihoods depend on climate-sensitive production systems remain among the most vulnerable groups. These populations face heightened risks of food insecurity, income loss, and limited access to health and social protection services.
• The economic context remains challenging, with projected inflation reaching 9.22 percent, according to the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB). Economic activity continues to be affected by disruptions to trade, fuel supply constraints, and mobility restrictions.
